A clear ledger

Privacy, in plain language.

Tally helps people split shared expenses. This policy explains what information Tally handles, why it is needed, and what choices you have.

Effective August 18, 2026

What you give Tally

When you create an account, Tally receives your email address and the profile information supplied by your sign-in method. You can also add a display name, avatar, and Venmo handle.

When you use the app, Tally handles the bills, groups, participants, receipt items, claims, balances, settlements, and other details you choose to enter or share.

Google sign-in

If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares the basic profile information needed to create and authenticate your Tally account, such as your name, email address, profile image, and account identifier. Tally does not request access to unrelated Google files, messages, contacts, or other Google services.

Receipts and device storage

Receipt photos selected for scanning are kept in browser storage on your device so you can review them while working. When you scan, Tally sends the prepared image to its receipt-extraction service and returns the extracted items for your review. The current scanner does not sync the photo itself as part of your bill draft.

Tally also uses browser storage for offline drafts, guest-link sessions, and display preferences. You can clear this information through your browser settings; clearing it may remove an unsynced draft or require a guest to choose their name again.

How Tally uses information

  • To authenticate you and keep your account signed in.
  • To save your bills, groups, profile, balances, and settlement records.
  • To calculate shares, reconcile receipt totals, and support shared bill links.
  • To send an optional settlement email when scheduled settlement email delivery is enabled.
  • To protect the service, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests.

Tally does not use your information for advertising and does not sell personal information.

Services that help Tally run

Tally relies on carefully scoped service providers: Supabase for authentication and application data, Vercel for hosting, Google for Google sign-in, OpenRouter for receipt extraction when scanning is enabled, and Resend for scheduled settlement emails when email delivery is enabled. These providers process information only as needed to provide their part of the service.

Sharing a bill

A guest bill link is a bearer link: anyone who has the link may be able to view the shared bill and participate in the guest flow. Share links only with the people you intend to invite. Authenticated bills and account data are protected by account and row-level access controls.

Retention and your choices

Tally keeps account and bill information while it is needed to provide the service. You can clear local browser data, remove available bill records in the app, or contact us to ask about access or deletion of account information. We may retain limited information when required for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.

Changes and contact

This policy may change as Tally adds or changes features. The effective date above will be updated when it does. Questions, access requests, and deletion requests can be sent to bryan.lee08@gmail.com.
